There’s a lot to be upset about. Everyday you can find something in the news, in your personal life, or wherever that can get you worked up. It’s easy to be swept up in a wave of rage because, I think, we get a certain high from it. “Seeing red” is a very real, very blinding lens. It creates a heat that wells up inside of you and boils over, usually coming out in an action that you wouldn’t do in a reasonable state of mind.

I’ve had a lot of moments in my life where I saw through that red lens. In general, I am a pretty positive person. I find ways to entertain myself and am for the most ok with what’s going on around me. But there have been a few instances in my life where I felt wronged in one way or another and let “the truth” or situations pour out of me. In my blind rage, I’ve said things to people that I can’t take back, regardless if what I was saying was true. It usually takes a lot for me to get to this point, but when I do, it’s not pretty. And you know what? I never feel better after I do it. I am usually ridden with guilt and regret.

Something I’ve learned is that certain situations and people are not worth your time. If you find yourself in a situation where someone is doing you wrong in one way or another, take a moment to step back and gather your thoughts. Never act on your first impulse. I know it seems like a fairly obvious course of action, but I think it’s one many people could benefit from (mostly myself.) Most people who are assholes usually have demons they themselves are facing, no matter how atrocious their acts. To go off on someone who is clearly mislead in life is like screaming at traffic; it’s pointless, it doesn’t fix anything, and in the end you just seem like the idiot. Don’t let the negativity of outside influences ruin your inner peace.
